HARAKATI (means “Movement” in Swahili)

Sports and physical exercise are a good way to learn discipline, structure, respect, communication, they build self-esteem, and aid in academic success.

At W.A.Y.S., we believe in programs for our youth that challenge them physically as well as mentally. It has been proven in multiple studies that exercise is a great way to improve mental health. Exercise can be an organic treatment for mild to moderate depression and can be as effective as medication. The benefit to this form of treatment is that there are no side effects. It releases endorphins, which are powerful chemicals in your brain that energize spirits and make one feel good. Exercise is also a natural and effective anti-anxiety treatment. It relieves tension and stress, boosts physical and mental energy. Exercising regularly is one of the easiest and most effective ways to reduce the symptoms of ADHD and improve concentration, motivation, memory, and mood. Regular activity is an investment in mind, body, and soul. When it becomes habit, it can foster a sense of self-worth and make one feel strong and powerful.

Our participants, both girls and boys, will take part in our “Movement” sessions. These sessions will involve clinics that focus on physical exercises, fun obstacle courses, basketball, soccer, and football skills. Whether or not a child is interested in becoming the next LeBron James, Peyton Manning, or Lionel Messi, “Movement” sessions will not only benefit the participants, they will have fun in the process.
